Training in the Wheatbelt
The Wheatbelt Mental Health Service provides a comprehensive and diverse training experience for psychiatry trainees. The service is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals, including Consultant Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, and Community Mental Health Nurses. Trainees will have the opportunity to work across various specialties, including Perinatal, Child and Adolescent, Youth, Adult, and Seniors Mental Health, supported by an Aboriginal Mental Health team. The service handles an average of 80-100 referrals per month, offering trainees exposure to a wide range of cases and clinical scenarios. With locally based teams in Northam, Gingin, Merredin, and Narrogin, and regular outreach to outlying areas, trainees will gain valuable experience in both urban and rural settings, supported by telehealth and videoconferencing technologies. This breadth of service ensures a well-rounded and enriching training experience.
RANZCP Training Posts
RPTWA’s Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Northam offers Stage 2/3 accredited training posts with experiences in Adult Psychiatry (AP) and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP), including accreditation for Stage 3 trainees completing CAP and AP Advanced Training.
