Training in the Midwest
The Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service (MMH&CADS) offers a comprehensive and dynamic training experience for psychiatry trainees. The service provides specialist assessment, treatment, and support through multi-disciplinary teams located in Geraldton, Carnarvon, and Meekatharra, with outreach to surrounding areas. Trainees will benefit from exposure to a wide range of mental health services, including adult and older adult care, child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), Aboriginal mental health, and safety and quality teams. The ongoing development of a Consultation Liaison Team at Geraldton Hospital, led by a Consultant Psychiatrist, and the upcoming opening of an inpatient mental health unit, further enhance the training opportunities available. This breadth of services ensures that trainees receive a broad and well-rounded training experience, preparing them for a successful career in psychiatry.
RANZCP Training Posts
RPTWA’s Comprehensive Training Hub (CTH) in Geraldton offers accredited training posts across all stages of RANZCP training, including Acute Adult inpatient and community training in Stage 1 and Stage 2/3 experiences in Adult Psychiatry (AP), Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CL), Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP), Psychiatry of Older Adults (POA), including accreditation for Stage 3 trainees completing AP Advanced Training and unique opportunities to provide psychiatric support to Midwest Aboriginal communities in partnership with our Aboriginal Mental Health Workers (INDAU).
